We love MFW, and actually find it to be very CM friendly, which I know is one of their goals. Hi! I could have written most of your post a couple of months ago! I too, have a 4th & a 2nd grader. Any input that would make this decision a little easier would be appreciated.Īlso, being in fifth grade when we start, my dd will go through the cycle once and then end with Joshua through Malachi, will that be okay? Has anyone switched from MFW to SCM and if so, are you happy with it compared to MFW? If anyone knows, how does Creation to the Greeks compare with Gen-Deut? I must admit it is sometimes hard for me to make decisions, and this is definitely something I am having a hard time with. Of those of you who have used Gen-Deut have you been happy with it? Was it enough? I am not looking to overload my kids or myself, but was there anything anyone added to the study that you felt made it more complete?Īlso, does anyone know of any study guides that have discussion questions for any of the books used in this study?

It is hard for me to say exactly just what it is that I don’t like, but I would like to try something different while my kids are still young. However, I am not quite satisfied with it. I also like notebooking what we’ve learned as this has been very beneficial to my kids and that is something I will definitely want to stick with. There are aspects of MFW that I really love! I love the book basket because we read a lot. It has worked so well for my kids and both of them are very good writers even at their young ages. We often do them after a selected reading where I simply ask them to write what they learned about. The notebooking pages are a lot like narration for us. With MFW we are use to Copywork, scripture memorization, and notebooking pages.

We are coming up on starting Creation to the Greeks and I am contemplating not buying it and instead using Genesis through Deuteronomy. We have been using MFW (My Father’s World) for three years now and have been pretty happy with it. I have been homeschooling for four years now and my two children are in second and fourth grades. I look forward to reading the sequel and recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about the early colonies and the relations between the English and the Native Americans in the 17th century.Hi Everyone, I am a newbie to this website and to the CM approach. I felt like there could have been a bit more exploration of the colonists perspective, though I am not familiar with what primary sources from this period exist, and I would rather have what feels incomplete than something made up, so perhaps George has done us a favor by not going more in depth on where the English were coming from in the matter. I felt like he was almost equally fair, though maybe a bit more heavily sympathatic to the Wampanoags, showing the very real injustices that pushed Metacomet toward war against the English. While he had very little positive to say about the leaders of Plimoth, I appreciated that he did not use a broad brush to paint all the English as evil. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by George's approach. I have found historical fiction to be the best way of helping me learn about different time periods, and I chose this book specifically to immerse myself more in the world of the early colonies.
